The non-science of Fringe: 6995 kHz

Fringe : Season 3 : Episode 6 : “6995 kHz”

Recovering the Machine.

Recovering the Machine.

While investigating a series of amnesia cases, the Fringe team – with a little prodding from Olivia-2 – end up cracking an ancient code and digging up some pre-human machinery. This is a major expansion of the show’s scope, and may lead to some improbable First People science.

This episode is debunked at Polite Dissent, and you can read more about it at Fox, IMDb and the A.V. Club.

Random thoughts

The number stations (which are a real phenomenon) aren’t necessarily linked to some mythical First People, they’re linked to the book that Peter recovers. Think, Walter.

A tenuous link to Breaking Bad! Astrid’s choice of music was a fugue (though that wasn’t the piece that actually played) and a fugue state is a type of amnesia, which was what Walt claimed to have suffered after Tuco dragged him out to the desert.
